February 26, 2023August 25, 2023 Staying at The Titanic Hotel, Belfast Built within the real site of the Harland & Wolff offices, Titanic Hotel is not only the most beautiful hotel but it is full of history too. It’s right opposite the site of where Titanic was built and launched, as well as being less than 100 yards from the Titanic Museum for your extra fix of Belfast history. As someone who went through that titanic obsession many moons ago (I know its not just me!) this was a dream come true, so read on to find out why… The moment you get to the Titanic hotel you are transported into 19th century Belfast, they have maintained almost all of the original structure and modernised the interior with big sky light windows and high end furnishing in what used to be the drawing room for Harland & Wolff. Dotted around the hotel, as reminders, are pictures and explanations of each room as it used to be to keep the original architecture alive. We were lucky enough to have been greeted by the most wonderful concierge (I only wish I remembered his name!), he could see how excited we were to be there and took time out of his day to give us our own mini tour of the building, showing us the offices, meeting rooms and gathering areas which have been left pretty untouched since turning the building into a hotel. One of the remaining offices even belonged to Thomas Andrews, the designer of the Titanic who went down with the ship after discovering that his ‘unsinkable ship’ was in fact sinkable. The hotel was perfectly located right on the docks, only a short walk from the centre of Belfast. There are plenty of shops, a cinema, restaurants and places to visit in the City Centre but to hear more about that, head over to my What to do and see in Belfast… Post. For dining, the restaurants include; ‘The Wolff Grill’ – the main dining area, serving a continental/buffet style breakfast and award winning fine dining in the evenings, ‘The Harland Bar’ – A cocktail bar with outstanding interior design, historic views and bespoke cocktails, and the spectacular ‘Drawing Office Two’, of course located in the original drawing office, a relaxing lounge area perfect for a drink, some food and to take in the breath-taking architecture it sits inside. Lastly onto the rooms, each room was very well decorated and furnished with a super comfy bed and beautiful bathroom! As far as I know every room had a television, which had it’s own Titanic channel with different interviews and documentaries playing all day, as well as the normal TV channels. I can’t say the views were spectacular from all angles, on our first stay we had a view of the ‘Car park and Titanic Studios’ but on our second stay we had a perfect view of the shipyard and museum so it all depends on which side of the hotel you end up on, pot luck really (unless you’re willing to request a specific room of course). This for me didn’t take away any of the luxury, instead it brought back the reality that it really was an old office and not your usual towering hotel by the beach. All Posts Luxury
